This alblum shows a rare collection of original United Kingdom FOH lobby sets from the movies of Hammer Studios. These sets where used to advertise the movie in cinemas at the time of the movies release. Traditionally they where displayed in glass boxes outside the cinema, hence the their name Front of House (FOH), however, they where also used inside the cinemas lobby or lounge. UK FOH lobby sets contain eight scene cards showing various shots from the movie. They are normally 10” x 8” in size and can be either B&W or Colour, some early colour sets where hand coloured even if the movie was made in B&W. Few of these lobby sets survive today, especially in good condition. The main reason for this was that all advertising material for movies was supposed to be returned after the movies cinema run. Also, when these sets where issued there where virtually no collectors of movie memorabilia and so they where either thrown away or returned. Many of the sets shown here are highly sought after by collectors and will command high prices when auctioned or sold. This is especially true for the horror movies from the 1950’s and early 60’s, which many term Hammer’s golden period. They also command high prices because they are ‘country of origin’ lobby sets and of course their rarity. I have collected these over many years and although its a big collection it is far from complete. Hammer made some 250 movies and here are just 109 sets, however, this collection is quite complete for the horror movies of Hammer and its last 25 years.
